Student FAQs

What is SkoolAide?

SkoolAide is goal setting software for middle and high school students. Through SkoolAide, students work with family members, teachers, counselors, coaches, and other mentors to set, track, and achieve their goals.

How do I login to SkoolAide?

Once your school or mentoring organization signs up with SkoolAide, you will receive an email to set your password. Click on the link in the email and follow the instructions to create a new password and set up your profile.

What is the RIASEC and why should I take it?

The RIASEC is a personality and interests assessment that helps identify your strengths and interests. This information can help you learn more about yourself and identify potential career paths you may be interested in.

What do my RIASEC profile results mean?

Your profile results can help you identify categories of careers which may play to your strengths and interests. You likely have strengths and interests in multiple categories, and you should explore career options for all of these categories. The descriptions of each category can be found in your profile.

I took the RIASEC and now know my strengths and interests, now how do I search for potential careers?

Click the “Career Path” button underneath your results, then click on the link for your top result. On the page that follows, you can add up to three interest codes to narrow your career search. We recommend selecting only one or two at a time.

What should I do with this career information?

When you have found careers that interest you, scroll through the career summary report for each of those careers to learn more about what skills and educational backgrounds are required. If the careers you are interested in require a college education, you can search for colleges in the SkoolAide Pathway.

How do I search for colleges?

You can search for colleges under the Pathway section of your dashboard, or click Pathway under the menu. You can search by keyword, average test scores, geographic region, cost, and more. You can add your favorite college or university to your profile.

How do I set goals?

Click on the “Goals and Rewards” section of your dashboard or the menu. Click “Add Goal” and enter the name of your goal, add a reward, and answer the questions about how you will achieve your goal and why it is important to you. If you have additional questions about how to set goals see Tools & Tips.

What kind of goals can I set?

You can set academic goals, goals to develop healthy habits, athletic goals, volunteering goals, and more. If there is something you want to achieve, you can set a goal for it! We recommend setting goals that can be achieved within a trimester or semester, depending upon your school schedule. For tips on how to set goals, check out How to Set Your First Goal, How to Level Up Your Goal, or How to Set SMART Goals.

What is a reward?

You can be rewarded for achieving your goals! Work with your parent or guardian to discuss a reward that you can receive for goal achievement. Your teachers or school leaders might also set classroom or school-wide goals and rewards for you and your classmates to work toward. You can select a reward through the Shop.com search function on SkoolAide, or you can create a different type of reward and add it to the “Custom Reward” field.

What is an advocate?

An Advocate is someone who can support you in achieving your goal. They can be a parent or guardian, another family member, coach, counselor, teacher, or mentor. Choose advocates who can support you in achieving your goal. For example, do you have a goal to improve your math grade, and an aunt with a talent for crunching numbers? Ask her to share her knowledge and skills to help you succeed.

How do I add an advocate?

Visit “My Advocates” through your dashboard or the menu, and fill out the form to add a new advocate. Be sure to let them know why you want them to be your advocate and how they can help you in your invitation.

Advocate FAQs

What is SkoolAide?

SkoolAide is goal setting software for middle and high school students. Through SkoolAide, students work with family members, teachers, counselors, coaches, and other mentors to set, track, and achieve their goals.

What kind of goals can students set?

Students can set goals to improve academics, develop healthy habits, reach athletic achievements, learn new skills, and more.

What does it mean to be an Advocate?

An advocate can be a parent, grandparent, uncle, aunt, teacher, coach, counselor, or other mentor that is committed to support and encourage the student to improve their academic performance and personal outcomes. Advocates might help the student with homework or simply serve as accountability partners as they work toward their goal.

Can my student approve anyone to become an Advocate?

No. The primary advocate (parent/legal guardian) of each student is required to approve or reject any person that the student requests to be part of their team of advocates.

I have received a request to become an advocate. What do I do?

Follow the login instructions to create your SkoolAide account and accept the invitation.

I see that students can be rewarded for achieving their goals. Tell me more.

We understand that not all students are intrinsically motivated to do well in all areas of their lives. By offering a reward for achieving a goal, students are incentivized and motivated to focus on the work required to meet that goal. Students work with their parents and guardians to establish appropriate rewards and standards for goal achievement, and can be as simple as a celebratory movie night with mom or dad. Teachers or school leaders can also offer rewards for classroom or school-wide goal achievement. The ultimate goal is to create paths of positive communication, support, and collaboration between students and their advocates.

How do advocates communicate with students about goals?

Advocates can communicate with students via the SkoolAide system or through face-to-face conversation.

How often are advocates expected to work with the student through SkoolAide?

How often students and advocates interact depends upon student needs, the goal they have set, and the role of the advocate. If a student has set an academic goal and uploads homework assignments as proof of completion, sending a simple note of “congratulations” or “nice work” provides real-time feedback that is important for students to receive in order to continue to succeed. If tutoring or study help is needed, more interaction may be required on the part of the advocate.
